Psychometric Validation of a Questionnaire to Assess Perception and Knowledge About Exposure to Pesticides in Rural Schoolchildren of Maule, Chile.María Teresa Muñoz-Quezada, Boris Lucero, Benjamín Castillo, Asa Bradman, Liliana Zúñiga, Brittney O. Baumert, Verónica Iglesias, María Pía Muñoz, Rafael J. Buralli & Carmen Antini - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Exposure to pesticides during infancy is associated with numerous adverse health outcomes. The assessment of knowledge and perception of pesticides exposure and risk among children has not been thoroughly studied. The aim of the study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of a questionnaire that measures the knowledge and perception of exposure to organophosphate pesticides among rural schoolchildren. The questionnaire was administered to 151 schoolchildren between 9 and 13years from four Chilean rural schools. An internal consistency analysis of the (...)

  7. God of the gaps: a neglected reply to God’s stone problem.Jc Beall & A. J. Cotnoir - 2017 - Analysis 77 (4):681-689.
Traditional monotheism has long faced logical puzzles. We argue that such puzzles rest on the assumed logical truth of the Law of Excluded Middle, which we suggest there is little theological reason to accept. By way of illustration we focus on God's alleged stone problem, and present a simple but plausible ‘gappy’ framework for addressing this puzzle. We assume familiarity with the proposed logic but an appendix is offered as a brief review.

Spin in the reporting, interpretation, and extrapolation of adverse effects of orthodontic interventions: protocol for a cross-sectional study of systematic reviews.Reint A. Meursinge Reynders, Nicola Di Girolamo & Pauline A. J. Steegmans - 2019 - Research Integrity and Peer Review 4 (1).
BackgroundTitles and abstracts are the most read sections of biomedical papers. It is therefore important that abstracts transparently report both the beneficial and adverse effects of health care interventions and do not mislead the reader. Misleading reporting, interpretation, or extrapolation of study results is called “spin”. In this study, we will assess whether adverse effects of orthodontic interventions were reported or considered in the abstracts of both Cochrane and non-Cochrane reviews and whether spin was identified and what type of spin.MethodsEligibility (...)

On The Philosophy of Poetry, ed. John Gibson.A. J. Nickerson - 2016 - Philosophy and Literature 40 (1):309-314.
The Philosophy of Poetry. “Of” intimates something more than copular coexistence. This could be the systematic and propositional attempt to define what poetry is, subjecting poetry to philosophical investigation with its distinctive questions and processes of inquiry. As a literary critic, however, I heard the title The Philosophy of Poetry as an assertion of poetry’s discursive, cognitive value: it suggests there are varieties of philosophic thought, of which one might be the poetic organization of understanding. Between these inversions there are (...)

May Stakeholders be Involved in Design Without Informed Consent? The Case of Hidden Design.A. J. K. Pols - 2017 - Science and Engineering Ethics 23 (3):723-742.
Stakeholder involvement in design is desirable from both a practical and an ethical point of view. It is difficult to do well, however, and some problems recur again and again, both of a practical nature, e.g. stakeholders acting strategically rather than openly, and of an ethical nature, e.g. power imbalances unduly affecting the outcome of the process. Hidden Design has been proposed as a method to deal with the practical problems of stakeholder involvement. It aims to do so by taking (...)

  50. Attitudes: Review 'Consciousness and Moral Responsibility' by Neil Levy. Oxford University Press, $117 hb, 176 pp, 978019870638. [REVIEW]A. J. Walsh - unknown
Consider the following dilemma. If it is possible to identify the cause of a person's action and beliefs - causes that are outside the agent's own conscious reasoning - in what sense can we say that the person chooses what she does or she thinks? If the person did not consciously choose, then it is reasonable to ask whether she should be held morally responsible for any of the subsequent consequences of her actions. This is the general territory of the (...)
